Senior Services Advisory Commission Seeks New Commissioners

Three openings are available for commissioners to serve on the Senior Services Advisory Commission.  Applicants must be Fountain Hills residents for a minimum of one year, and be able to attend monthly meetings on the fourth Monday of the month at 3:30 p.m.  The new Commissioners will be appointed by the Town Council and will serve on a volunteer basis for a two-year term beginning January 1, 2009 and ending December 31, 2010.

The role of the Commission is to advise the Mayor, Town Council, and the Director of the Community Center in matters pertaining to Senior services.  Commissioners spend an average of 5 to 12 hours per month attending Commission meetings, reading packet materials, working on subcommittees, and volunteering on various department projects.  Essential skills/knowledge in one or more of the following fields is preferred: senior services, gerontology, budgets, communication and a member of a civic association.

Applications are being accepted until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2008.  Applications may be sent to the Fountain Hills Community Center, Attention: Sherry Bowland, 13001 North La Montana Drive, Fountain Hills, AZ 85268.  The envelope should be marked “Senior Services Commission Application”.  Town Council will review all applications, received by the submission deadline, in Executive Session on November 20, 2008.  Interviews are tentatively scheduled to be held December 9, with possible appointment made by the Council at their December 18, 2008 meeting.
