Pedestrians Now Get a Countdown in Fountain Hills

Jan 05, 2009

(Fountain Hills) -  If you are using Fountain Hills crosswalks, they are about to become even safer:  The first countdown pedestrian light has been installed at the intersection of El Lago and Saguaro.  Instead of seeing just “Don’t Walk” flashing, pedestrians will be alerted as to how many seconds they have left to make it safely across the intersection.

“Over the next ten years, we will be installing these throughout Town,” said Ken Kurth, Superintendent of Streets.  “We will be limited by our budget, but when a pedestrian light breaks, we want to replace it with the countdown option to help keep our residents safe.”

What:  First pedestrian countdown light installed

When:  Up and running.  More will be installed throughout Town over the next ten years.

Where: El Lago and Saguaro

Why:  To make Fountain Hills safer for pedestrians
