Job Title: Recreation Assistant

The fundamental reason this part-time classification exists is to perform simple manual and clerical duties, with little or no supervision, in park maintenance or recreation unskilled activities. Some positions are assigned to the maintenance area performing tasks such as custodial work and policing of the grounds. In the recreation area, duties include providing unskilled clerical support and helping with the various recreation programs.

Salary Range:

$9.92 - $11.83 DOQ

Job Title: Adult Interest Instructor or Parks and Recreation Course Instructor

Instructors will need to be available for their designated class; have working equipment or be able to provide class with educational materials that are necessary to teach class, and work well in a Community Center setting. Classes include:

  • Intermediate Spanish
  • Oil Painting
  • Beginning Drawing
  • Digital Photography

Salary Range:

$20 - $40 per student, dependant on course

Volunteer Positions


Job Title: Receptionist, Front Desk: Town Hall


Time Requirements:

Four hours weekly. This position is less flexible in that we need to have front desk coverage at all times if possible. Volunteers take one, four-hour shift weekly, either 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Purpose of the Position:

The front desk Volunteers serve as the friendly, welcoming faces of Fountain Hills. They serve as the first contact that residents have with Town Hall; offer directions and information at the request of residents; assist with designated tasks from Staff; and serve as a customer service representative for the Town with your presence at the front desk.

Specific Tasks or Duties:

  1. Work with Customer Service Representatives by reporting to their desk and getting the key to the Adopt-A-Street closet, as well as any additional projects for their shift.
  2. Provide a friendly greeting to residents upon their arrival in the building.
  3. Ask how you may be of assistance to residents.
  4. Direct the public to the proper locations as needed.
  5. Become familiar with the Information Book at the front desk with a variety of Town related news as well as the brochures/pamphlets at the counter. Locate a map of Fountain Hills.
  6. Look over the Town Staff Phone Extension list and the names and departments in which they work.
  7. Daily Mail- divide by folders provided and bring upstairs.
  8. Read the weekly FH Times newspaper and become familiar with events taking place in the Town. Be prepared to answer questions about activities in the Community Center, Senior Activity Center, and Parks and Recreation.
  9. Observe activities in entire lobby area of Town Hall with attention to safety.
  10. Attend an Orientation Session offered in the fall and spring.
  11. Report any concerns or questions to the Volunteer Coordinator.
  12. If you are uncertain of the information requested, please always ask for assistance from one of the CSR’s- they are happy to help you!
  13. Enjoy your time of service!

Skills Needed:

Friendly, willing to look up when reading a book to smile at residents when they enter the Town Hall, maintain a professional demeanor, including confidentiality in matters of the public as well as neutrality, any and all skills that are helpful in completing assigned tasks, commitment to schedule and communicating any change to the Volunteer Coordinator, and willingness to share their pleasant personality.

Supervisor and Reporting Relationship:

The Front Desk Receptionists are expected to attend an Orientation session in the fall and the spring. They will receive feedback about their performance throughout their valuable service in this position from the staff as well as the Volunteer Coordinator. Demonstrating care and concern for the Town of Fountain Hills and exemplary service to its residents will ensure excellence in the Receptionist placement!


Job Title:Planning & Zoning and Public Works Support Volunteer


Time requirements:

Four hours weekly. This position has flexible hours/schedule depending upon the needs of the Town staff and the Volunteer. A minimum of four hours weekly can be expected although more time may be required due to special projects – mutually agreed upon by Staff and Volunteer.

Purpose of Position:

To provide clerical support to the Planning & Zoning and Public Works staff as needed.

Specific Tasks or Duties:

  1. Work closely with the Executive Assistant to Public Works Director and the Executive Assistant to Planning & Zoning Director.
  2. General filing.
  3. Re-sort encroachment permits by numbers.
  4. Set-up Town Code book.
  5. Set-up revised County construction statutes in book.
  6. Update files system.
  7. Copying.
  8. Special projects as assigned.
  9. Maintain confidentiality.

Skills Needed:

Ability to follow directions in assigned tasks; detail oriented; consistent attendance; good communication skills; ability to work on own initiative, ask questions as needed; easy going nature.

Supervisor and Reporting Relationship:

The Planning & Zoning/Public Works Support Volunteer will report to the Executive Assistants to both Directors, who will assign duties. Staff will have a weekly list of duties prepared for the Volunteer.

Results/Performance:

The P&Z/Public Works Support Volunteer is expected to attend a Volunteer Orientation training session and will receive feedback about their performance throughout their service. The Volunteer Coordinator will provide an evaluation after three months of service with input from both the Volunteer and Staff. Showing careful attention and consistent attendance will provide excellent service to the Town.

Job Title: Administrative Support Volunteer


Time Requirements:

Four hours weekly. This position has flexible hours depending upon needs of Administrative Staff. A minimum of four hours each week can be expected although there could be times where more time may be required due to special projects.

Purpose of Position:

To provide clerical support for Administrative Staff, the Town Clerk, Finance Director, Human Resource Director, as needed.

Specific Tasks or Duties:

  1. Work closely with the Town Clerk by helping with preparation of election packets.
  2. Copying after Town Council meetings.
  3. Exchanging papers in files and maintenance of files.
  4. Helping Human Resource Director with preparation of employee manuals.
  5. General filing.
  6. Special projects as assigned.
  7. Maintain confidentiality.

Skills Needed:

Detail-oriented; thorough follow-through in preparation of all work; consistent attendance; willingness to take responsibility; good communication skills; ability to work as part of a team; critical thinking skills and ability to act on own initiative.

Supervisor and Reporting Relationship:

The Administrative Volunteer reports to the Town Clerk who will assign tasks. Administrative Staff will have a Task List prepared for Volunteer.

Results/Performance:

The Administrative Volunteer is expected to attend Orientation training and will receive feedback throughout service in the position. Showing initiative, leadership, and enthusiasm will provide excellent service to the Town.
