Purpose
To provide nutritional noon time meals for individuals of all ages living in Fountain Hills who require meal assistance. The support of this program allows individuals to reside as long as possible in the comfort of their own home or while recovering from an illness.
About the Home Delivered Meals Program
Meals are provided by Fountain View Village for a fee of $7.00 per meal. Noon time meals are delivered 7 days a week including all major holidays. Clients request the days they wish to receive meals based on availability. Some may desire daily deliveries whereas others may wish to receive meals on alternate days. Clients who are unable to pay for meals may qualify for meals assistance through Area Agency on Aging, a private non-profit organization serving Maricopa County. To determine eligibility for assistance, call Area Agency on Aging's Helpline at 602-264-4357.
Home Delivered Meals is not age restrictive. However, clients must be year-round residents of Fountain Hills, stay on the program for a minimum of two weeks and, be home to receive the meals when they are delivered.
Clients must meet one of the following criteria in order to get on the program:
Area Agency Clients: Approval from Area Agency on Aging required. Call Area Agency on Aging at 602-264-4357.
Self-Pay Clients Must..................
1. Suffer from a physical condition (i.e., chronic pain, diabetes, heart problems, Parkinson's, sight impairment), etcetera. (or)
2. Be recovering from a hospital stay and unable to prepare his or her own meals. (or)
3. Be a caregiver for a physically or mentally impaired person. (or)
4. Be eighty years of age or older.
Meals
Each meal consists of a hot entrée provided in a three compartment aluminum container as well as a cold sack consisting of a salad, milk, fruit and dessert. Special meals are also available for diabetics.
New Clients
Anyone interested in having a meal delivered, whether it be a spouse, a parent, a friend or yourself, is encouraged to contact the Activity Center for Seniors & Boomers at (480) 816-5226, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Messages are not retrieved after 4:00 PM nor on weekends or holidays.
Volunteer Drivers Needed
All meals are delivered by volunteers. The town is divided into three zones with two volunteers for each area delivering meals. Each team delivers only once per month with substitute teams available when regular teams are unavailable. Volunteers pick up the meals at Fountain View Village between 10:45 and 11:00 AM. Delivery time frame is approximately 1 to 1½ hours.
