      <title>Town of Fountain Hills Great Fair Senior Softball Tournament Swings Into Action</title>

      <description>Age is not a factor when it comes to seniors from around the Grand Canyon state stepping up to the Town of Fountain Hills Great Fair Senior Softball Tournament.&amp;nbsp; More than 16 senior softball teams of more than 200 players from Arizona step up to the plate in Fountain Hills for one big weekend of championship fun.&amp;nbsp; 

Age does not hold back these players as they compete to win the Town of Fountain Hills Parks and Recreation Great Fair Senior Softball Tournament, as several players in their early 80&#8217;s take on their younger counterparts!&amp;nbsp; This should inspire those young and old.&amp;nbsp; Many of these players have enjoyed the game for years and built plenty of rivalries.&amp;nbsp; Not to be missed?&amp;nbsp; Dee Harrison’s Tigers and the AZ Titans.

This year’s tournament will be held February 4&#45;7, 2010, which will be earlier in the month than the local festival of the same name.&amp;nbsp; The date of the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce Great Fair is last full weekend in February, which is February 27&#45;28, 2010.&amp;nbsp;

All hikes are from 8 – 11:30 a.m.&amp;nbsp; Please register with Preserve Stewards 15 minutes prior to hike departure.&amp;nbsp; 

Hikers are urged to bring plenty of water, a sunshade, and put on good hiking footwear.

      <title>Docent&#45;Led Art Walk</title>

      <description>Join the Town of Fountain Hill for a docent&#45;lead art walk through the Town’s nearly 70 pieces of public art.&amp;nbsp; You can attend one or both tours, which will feature sculptures located at the Civic Center, along Avenue of the Fountains, and at Fountain Park.&amp;nbsp; This collection of public art is valued at over $1,000,000 and includes works by internationally renowned artists.&amp;nbsp; 

Every first Saturday, volunteer docents will lead two tours and provide information about each work of art, the artist, and the inspiration behind the creation. The first tour, beginning at 9 a.m., will visit artwork along the Avenue of the Fountains and in Fountain Park.&amp;nbsp; Each tour costs $5 and begins at the entrance to the Community Center.&amp;nbsp; The second tour will begin at 10 a.m. and take place in the Sculpture Garden area. Registration is required for the tours.

      <description>For 50 years the Navajo County Hashknife Sheriff’s Posse with up to 30 riders participating, recreates the ride of the Pony Express from Holbrook to Scottsdale with stops and celebrations in communities along the way. It all culminates with their participation in Scottsdale’s annual Parada del Sol. On this day, the riders gallop into Fountain Hills and are officially greeted at the Post Office in the early afternoon, followed by a free festive event, featuring music, food and drink at the Town of Fountain Hills Community Center.

      <description>If you are a Senior or Boomer and want to learn more about all the activities the Town provides, the Town of Fountain Hills Activity Center for Seniors &amp;amp; Boomers will sponsor its annual Expo on Wednesday, January 27 from 1 &#45; 3 p.m. and invites you to attend.

The Expo will showcase the many new programs, various support groups, classes and trips being offered between January and June 2010.&amp;nbsp; 

Attendees will have an opportunity to interact and mingle directly with the various activity groups, to ask questions, and to learn about the variety of programs that are available.&amp;nbsp; In addition, there will be door prizes and entertainment, as well as tables laden with goodies and refreshing beverages. 
 
An Activity Center tri&#45;fold brochure  will be available to all who attend.&amp;nbsp; It contains a list of the activities that are offered, including fitness programs, support groups, socialization activities, social services, and a variety of fabulous trips.&amp;nbsp; It will also highlight some special events coming up.&amp;nbsp; This is an opportunity to renew membership or join for the first time.&amp;nbsp; Membership is open to all adults, regardless of age.

      <description>Mayor Jay Schlum would like to invite you to a Town Hall meeting, which will be the first of the new year.&amp;nbsp; This meeting will focus on the Town of Fountain Hills Community Center and Activity Center for Seniors &amp;amp; Boomers.&amp;nbsp; In 2009, Mayor Schlum held three such meetings in order to hear from citizens and address a variety of concerns.&amp;nbsp; The prior three meetings have focused on public safety, parks and recreation, finances and economic development, public works and planning and zoning.

&#8220;As we ring in the new year, I want to hear from more of our residents about what matters to them,&#8220; said Mayor Jay Schlum.&amp;nbsp; &#8220;I want our citizens to continue to step forward and share their comments, questions and concerns in an open environment and we believe this is the perfect opportunity for them to do so.&#8220;

Following the presentation regarding the two focal points of the meeting, the Mayor, Councilmembers Dennis Brown and Mike Archambault and Town staff will be on hand to hear from you.&amp;nbsp; Only two councilmembers and the Mayor may attend each of the Town Halls to ensure no open meeting laws are violated and that the public can bring forward a variety of topics to be discussed.
