The Town of Fountain Hills Board of Adjustment is made up of five members that are appointed by the Mayor, subject to Council approval, for two-year terms. At their regular meetings Boardmembers make decisions propose or take legal action with respect to zoning issues and related applicants. The Boardmembers' authority is found in State Law, Town Code and Zoning Ordinance.
To be a member of the Town of Fountain Hills Board of Adjustment, one should have experience or knowledge in one or more of the following fields:

- Land Use Planning
- Land Development
- Law
- Architecture
- Landscape Architecture
- Civil Engineering
- Traffic Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
- Geography
- Past experience on city/town Council
- Position on HOA Board
- Economics
- Public Administration
- Geology
- Hydrology
- Land Surveying
- Communications and Public Relations
Commissioners are unpaid volunteers that work under a Code of Ethics that ensures the quality of the Town Government through the practice of ethical principles that govern conduct.
