Director of Public Works:
Tom Ward

Tom has been working in Fountain Hills for thirty-five years.
He first worked for Trico of Arizona, Inc., a civil engineering
and surveying company and was heavily involved with most of the
original infrastructure design and subdivision planning in the
early years of development.
In the mid-80s, Tom worked as a development coordinator for
MCO Properties, Inc., where he was challenged with building
subdivisions in the foothills of Fountain Hills. In April of
1992 Tom came to work for the Town as an Engineering Inspector.
Presently, as Director
of Public Works, Tom oversees the operations of the Street
Department, Engineering, Building Safety, Planning and Zoning
and Facilities Operations. He has served on many committees related to
civil engineering, traffic engineering and downtown development.
His most recent involvement was with the construction of the
downtown renovation of Avenue of the Fountains.
Tom’s educational background is in Architectural
Engineering and Construction Engineering. Tom and his wife Amy
have been married for 35 years. They have a son Brian and a
daughter Kirsten. Both are married and starting families of
their own. Their latest addition are two grandsons.
Tom is a Vietnam veteran and served in the USMC. He did a
tour of duty in 1966-67 and received the Purple Heart Award
while serving with the 3rd Force Recon Battalion. “Semper Fi”
is still a part of his vocabulary.
